High Voltage (HV) & Medium Voltage Systems
Medium voltage switchgear, power transformers, HV cable systems, and substation layout and safety procedures for electrical engineering students entering the power utility and industry sectors.
What you will learn
- Describe MV switchgear types including ring main units, vacuum circuit breakers, and SF6 switchgear
- Explain transformer principles, kVA rating, vector groups, tap changers, and cooling systems
- Apply HV cable jointing and termination safety procedures and describe stress cone function
- Conduct a structured substation inspection using a checklist and safety clearance procedure
Who it's for
FET electrical engineering students with single-phase and three-phase installation experience. Medical fitness for HV work environments is required.
